(Changzhou, September 16) On the second day of the 2009 LI LING China Masters Super Series, China's newly-crowned world champion Lu Lan booked an early ticket for the women's singles' 1/8 round after beating teammate Zhu Lin in two straight sets.
Feeling relaxed in front of an enthusiastic home crowd, Lu Lan, a native of host city Changzhou, succeeded in extending her winning streak after clinching the women's singles title at the Hyderabad World Championships last August. Lu Lan opened the match with an 8-3 lead and, despite the counterattack from Zhu Lin, world champion in 2007, kept her pace throughout the game before finishing it 21-13. In the second game, the scores were tied time and again when Lu Lan launched another round of attacks to earn herself eight points in a row, 13-5. Seeing there was no hope to turn the table, Zhu Lin apparentaly gave up and soon lost 21-9, sending Lu Lan on to the second round.
Statistics show that the Lu-Zhu match lasted merely 25 minutes, with Lu Lan enjoying an overwhelming superiority in both smashes and net exchange shots.
In the following round of 16, Lu is to meet the winner between Mew Choo Wong of Malaysia and Jiang Yanjiao of China.
